Al-'Allaamah 'Abdullah bin 'Abdir Raheem al-Bukhaarin said:
And he (ibn al-Qayyim), may Allāh have mercy on him, said, as stated in "Mukhtaṣar aṣ-Ṣawā‘iq":
"We say a general statement, upon which we call Allāh ﷻ and His angels as witnesses: There is nothing in the ḥadīth of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ that contradicts the Qurān or contradicts clear reason. Rather, his ﷺ words are a clarification of the Qurān, an explanation of it, and a detailed exposition of what is general in it. Anyone who rejects a ḥadīth under the claim that it contradicts the Qurān, then there is no doubt that this ḥadīth which he rejected aligns with and corresponds to the Qurān. At most, it might be an addition to what is in the Qurān, and this is what the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ commanded to accept and forbade to reject when he said: «Do not let me find any of you reclining on his couch when something of my command comes to him, and he says: "I don't know; we only follow what we find in the Book of Allāh."»
This is what has occurred from setting a false principle to reject the ḥadīths, by saying about every ḥadīth that is an addition to what is in the Qurān (meaning: every ḥadīth which contains a ruling that is not in the Qurān): "This is an addition to the text (of the Qurān), so it becomes an abrogation, and the Qurān cannot be abrogated by the Sunnah." This, precisely, is what the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ warned his Ummah against and prohibited. He ﷺ informed them that Allāh Almighty has revealed to him the Book and something like it with it. Thus, whoever rejects the authentic Sunnah without another Sunnah opposing it that is later and abrogating it, has indeed rejected the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and the revelation of Allāh."
