The jesting of Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) with his Companions, the limitations of joking, and the age with which the people will enter Paradise, their beauty and forms.

Imām Al-Bukhārī reported in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad (no. 265) with a sahīh chain of narration from Abu Hurairah (radiyallāhu ‘anhu) that the Companions said to the Messenger (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam), “Do you jest with us?” He responded, “Yes, but verily, I only speak the truth.”

This hadeeth shows that Allah’s Messenger (salallāhu ‘alaihi wasallam) would jest and banter with his Companions with words as a joke to make them happy – and he would do so with them as a group or with individuals from among them. However, he would not speak except the truth even when jesting.

The Fitnah of Self-Amazement and Placing Importance on One’s Own Opinion – Al-Uthaymin (rahimahullah)

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated:

One of the trials and tribulations is that some students of knowledge are afflicted with self-amazement, being opinionated, dismissive of others, and not giving attention to their statements to the extent that a person portrays himself as if he is the scholar of the Ummah and its genius. This disease, I mean: the disease of self-amazement, is one of the most harmful things to a person, especially the students of knowledge because if a man is amazed with his own opinion, he becomes dismissive of others, gives no value to their opinions and have no qualms about opposing others, and you find him walking on the ground as if he were walking on the air due to the intensity of the self-amazement in him.

Publicizing Oneself for marriage in the newspapers is not modesty!

Question:

What is the ruling regarding daughters who publicize themselves in the newspapers and magazines with a description of their characteristics for the one who desires to propose and marry them?

Answer:

A woman publicizing herself in the magazines and newspapers out of a desire for marriage, whilst making a mention of her characteristics is (something) in opposition to shyness, modesty and protection (of a woman from strange men and harm). This is not from the normal habits of the Muslims and it is obligatory to abandon it. This (action) is in violation of the guardianship of her guardian over her, due to the (fact) that a proposal made to her for marriage has (to be done) through him and (with) his agreement. And to Allaah belongs (all bestowal of guidance and ability to perform good deeds).
